Trading up: a smaller vehicle, a bigger reach
Big News: Magic Tooth Bus is Upgrading Our Ride!
Since 2020, our mobile dental clinic has traveled the streets of San Francisco—from Bayview and Visitacion Valley to the Mission District and across the Bay Area—delivering essential dental care directly to over 7K families. Every stop along the way has been a vital part of our story.
Now, we are excited to share the next chapter of our journey: Magic Tooth Bus is replacing our 40-foot mobile truck with a smaller, more agile vehicle.
Four Reasons Why We’re Making the Move
Our truck served us well, but transitioning to a nimble van allows us to serve our community smarter, greener, and more effectively.
- Accessing More Neighborhoods: Our 40-foot truck simply couldn’t fit into many tight city streets and school lots. A smaller vehicle unlocks access to the high-need areas we previously couldn’t reach.
- Maximizing Patient Impact: We bought our original truck secondhand in 2020, when it was already 19 years old. By eliminating heavy repair and fuel costs, every dollar saved goes directly back into patient care.
- Leading on Sustainability: California is phasing out diesel vehicles by 2035. Rather than waiting for a mandate, we are taking action now on our own timeline—and actively exploring an electric vehicle option.
- Zero Disruption to Your Care: While our iconic mobile unit is evolving, our commitment to you remains unchanged. We already treat 9 out of 10 patients using portable equipment at schools and community sites. This means your scheduled visits continue seamlessly with the same expert team you know and rely on.
What’s Next?
We are currently researching vehicle models, plan to acquire the new van by December, and will officially launch our new mobile unit publicly in early 2027. You might see our original truck listed for sale soon—now you know the story behind it!
